![]() ![]() Library management is a crucial part of successful DJing, and both Serato DJ Pro and Virtual DJ have several tools for organising your digital music collection. In Day Mode, the software essentially inverts its colours, which makes it much easier to see the interface. This is perfect for when DJing outside in bright sunlight, which can make it difficult to see a dark themed DJ program on a glossy screen. One new feature that both Virtual DJ 2020 and Serato DJ Pro share is a Day Mode. Laptops with higher resolution displays can take advantage of the high-res display option, which delivers a sharper interface. There are panels for FX, sampler, and recording DJ sets. Serato DJ Pro maintains its signature interface design, which is still clean and easy to navigate. You can still customise many different aspects of the interface, choose between different layouts like Pro and Performance, change the colour and position of the scrolling waveforms, and even select different types of jogwheel displays. Unlike previous versions of Virtual DJ, which opted for skeuomorphism and colourful elements, the 2020 interface is much more modern with its muted colours and flat design, and gives the entire software a significantly more professional feel. The most visible change to the 2020 version of Virtual DJ is the new user interface. We decided to take another look at the new versions of both of these DJ platforms, and see how they stack up against each other. Rekordbox has the advantage of being translatable to most of the industry standard decks out there (namely the CDJ2000 series), Serato is more geared for turntablists, and Traktor is more geared for controllerism.Virtual DJ recently got a big upgrade and is now called Virtual DJ 2020, and Serato DJ Pro has also added several new features and improvements. Ultimately it comes down to what you become comfortable with. Most of their hardware support is aftermarket and I've come across more than one issue that people have had with it live. Virtual DJ gets a bit of a rep of being the redheaded stepchild of the DJ software world, and while that may be a bit undeserved, it doesnt have the same level of hardware designed specifically for it as the others do. They'll still work on pretty much all the industry standard gear too with little problem, and they're still mainly the choice of the crazy ass techno DJs. A couple years ago Traktor was up there, and it's still in the conversation, but they've really faltered in recent years in really driving the industry. They've got the most hardware coming out for them and they're both fully integrable with pretty much all the industry standard gear. Right now Rekordbox and Serato are the heavyweights.
